JESSICA joins WDU as a group class training assistant. A former zookeeper at the Baltimore Zoo, Jessica got bored with the monotony that comes with working with lions & tigers. She is now a zookeeper teacher of small human children. Her dog Enzo was originally hired to follow her to the bathroom, but after seeing him in a bowtie, he's been promoted to CEO.
CARSON also joins us as a group class training assistant. As a part of the behavior team at Charleston Animal Society. she may be from Charleston, South Carolina, but this girl has a heart the size of Texas when it comes to dogs. She also hearts good food, live music & exploring. Often mistaken for Carson's shadow, Cleo is a retired fortune teller from the 90's & personal bubble eliminator.
ADRIANNA is a soon-to-be CofC grad & rounds out the WDU roster as Marketing Coordinator. Hailing from a strange land she calls, Connecticut, Adrianna (affectionately referred to as AT for short) is getting her degree in business admin., speaks fluent Albanian & loves art. Her two cats Kirby & BamBam were not thrilled about office picture day & haven't shown up for work since. |

MYTH BUSTERS
Lies breed misconceptions
We pittie the fool who falls for these foolish dog breed misconceptions (pun most certainly intended.)
PITBULLS' JAWS LOCK WHEN THEY BITE
❌ Foolish. Pitties have the same jaw as any other dog & just get a bad rap. DYK at one point they were known as the American family dog & considered "nanny dogs" for watching over young children.
POODLES WON'T IMPACT THOSE WITH ALLERGIES
❌ Oodles of flapdoodle. Unfortunately, allergies are not partial to poodles. All animals produce dander - it's just that poodles shed less, which means less dander. Also, we didn't make that word up.
GREYHOUNDS ARE HIGH ENERGY
❌ Fast & foolish. People often associate this breed with needing a lot of exercise when, in fact, they tend to be quite the couch potatoes & make great house pups.
GREAT DANES AREN'T APARTMENT DOGS
❌ Oolishfay. 🐷 While they may take up a lot of space, they don't need much space. Their calm, gentle & relaxed demeanor actually make them perfect apartment dogs.
ROTTWEILERS & DOBERMANS MIGHT TURN ON THEIR OWNERS
❌ Fifty ways of foolish. These doggos are just as sweet, loveable & playful as the rest. It all comes down to genes, training & socialization. |

DOGGO LINGO
Why we ❤️ it:
Did you know there's an entire language out there dedicated to translating our dog's thoughts and feelings? Some of the vocab you've heard before from this newsletter, but there's an entire dictionary! Ahhh the things you come across on the internet... here's a smattering of our fav. words.
BOI A boy. Usually refers to a male dog, but any dog can be a good boi – that is unless they want to be called a good gurl.
BOOF A boof is the huffy sound a dog makes when they are on the verge of barking, usually made when they are unsure of whether to bark or not.
BOOP The act of gently & playfully tapping your doggo on the snoot.
BORK Bark.
CHIMKIN Chicken.
CHONK Based on the words chunk/chunky. Chonk & chonky are used affectionately to describe dogs who are chunky, pudgy, or slightly overweight.
DANGER NOODLE Snake. SEE ALSO: NOPE ROPE. How to use in sentence: “Hecc off danger noodle!”
DERP / DERPY A goofy, silly-looking facial expression or action that leaves your dog looking…well, derpy. Like when your dog’s eyes are crossed & their tongue is hanging out or they fall asleep in a funny position.
FLOOF / FLOOFER A remarkably fluffy dog, like the Old English Sheepdog, Husky, Pomeranian, etc. Large, fluffy dogs like Newfoundland, Tibetan Mastiff are FLOOFERS.
FREN A friend of doggo. How to use in sentence: “Henlo fren. Am doggo!”
GIB Verb, to give. How to use in sentence: "Gib me some heckin’ pats, hooman!"
HAPP Happy. All doggos want you to be as happ as them in everything you do.
HECKIN' / HECK / HECC / H*CK Dog's favorite swear word - although they don't know any others.
HENLO Hello. How to use in sentence: “Henlo fren. I am doggo!”
HOOMAN Dog’s best friend – the human, gibber of treatos and belly rubs.
LOAF A thicc or chonk doggo that looks like a loaf of bread.
LONG BOI Long-bodied doggos like the greyhound, borzoi, & even the smol long boi dachshund.
PATS To get pet by a frenly hooman.
PUPPER A small dog or puppy.
SMOL Smol is an affectionate way of saying that a puppy is tiny & cute.
SNACC Snack. SEE ALSO: SNACCO or TREATO.
SNOOT A dog’s nose or snout.
TEEFS Teeth. Sometimes a dog’s lip will get stuck on their teefs.
TIPPY TAPS The little dance a dog will do when they are filled with excited anticipation.
TOE BEANS The adorably squishy toe pads on a dog’s paws.
